Charles Lenox-Conyngham

Charles was educated at Winchester, Oxford and Wharton Business School, Philadelphia.

For twelve years he was on the board of Ocean, Britain's second largest listed transport company, where he was chief executive of the main division, shipping, during the container revolution. He then joined, as chairman and chief executive, the ferry company, Sealink, BR's first major privatisation, where his team turned a loss of £17m in 1986 into a profit of £24m in 1989. Bought for £66m in 1984, Sealink was valued at about £500m in 1990 when the core business was sold to Stena.

For the past fifteen years, he has chaired a range of listed and private equity companies, working mainly with Close Bros and 3i.
