Hampshire PCT in partnership with Solent Community Solutions Ltd (SCS) is delighted to announce that they have achieved financial close for Fareham Community Hospital under the NHS LIFT scheme.
Planning approval for Fareham Community Hospital was granted by Fareham Borough Council on 2nd October 2008 and work on the hospital construction is due to start on 26th January 2009 with completion scheduled in Spring 2010.
Inger Hebden, Director of Capital Planning, Hampshire Primary Care Trust said: "We are delighted to have been granted the financial close for the scheme to build the hospital. It means that work can now begin and the local community are one step closer to benefitting from first class healthcare close to home."
"The swift progress on the planning and development phase for Fareham Community Hospital is testament to the proactive approach taken by Hampshire PCT in partnership with Solent Community Solutions Ltd and the other parties involved, including Fareham Borough and Hampshire County Councils. The new hospital has been eagerly anticipated by the local community, who have been engaged throughout the design process. The public have played an important role in enabling the PCT to deliver a high quality, well designed facility for the town and hopefully they will be very proud of the finished product."
The new state-of-the-art hospital has been designed to complement the landscape and its surroundings and be easily accessible to the local population. Its contemporary design responds carefully to the clinical and functional requirements of the PCT and reflects the modern model of care which it will provide. The new community hospital will be environmentally friendly and built from materials from renewable sources. It will also comply with modern energy efficiency standards using biomass boilers to reduce carbon emissions and furthermore, meet BREEAM excellence standards for healthcare facilities.
The hospital will accommodate existing services from sites in Fareham and Gosport and some acute services from Portsmouth's QA Hospital will relocate into a primary / community care setting. It will also bring together a range of primary healthcare professionals such as GPs, community nurses and therapists enhancing the delivery of primary care services in the area.
Services which are currently spread across several existing buildings will also be accommodated in the new hospital:
• Assessment Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre (ATRC) a multi-disciplinary rapid assessment centre for older patients referred by GP or community matron
• A Therapy Department which provides a clinical outpatient area for therapy services including Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy
• Diagnostic imaging including X-ray, Digital Imaging and Ultrasound
• Older people's Mental Health outpatients
