A new multi million pound health centre serving local people in Athersley and New Lodge was officially opened by the Mayor of Barnsley on Saturday 19 March 2011.
The Roundhouse Medical Centre will be a massive boost to the local community and will contribute to the regeneration of Athersley and New Lodge, bringing health services previously provided in hospital to the heart of the community.
The health centre will serve approximately 10,000 patients from three GP practices (St Georges Medical Centre, Park Grove Practice and Dr Ali). New facilities and services provided for patients at the Medical Centre include;
Cchild and adolescent services
On-site minor surgery
The building itself is an impressive architectural resource, incorporating the latest energy saving technologies and has achieved the highest standard for low energy buildings.
NHS Barnsley Chairman, Tom Sheard said:
"We hope this new development will help to restore confidence to the town and contribute to the regeneration of Athersley and New Lodge
"The facilities provided by the Roundhouse medical centre will not only bring more health services direct to the community but will be provided in a state of the art building suitable to serve local people for years to come"
