25 young children from Great Houghton Youth Club in Barnsley were smiling all the way to London after local development company Barnsley Community Solutions (BCS) donated £5,000 towards them enjoying several 'out of school' adventures.
BCS has forged strong local ties with the area and in particular the local youth group having recently completed the development of a new modern health facility the "Great Houghton Centre'' in partnership with NHS Barnsley.
BCS General Manager Dave Witney said "We understand the need to ensure that the local community have a say in their local facilities as well as ensuring that we open the horizons for local children. This donation is our way of thanking the local community and in particular Great Houghton Youth Club for their contribution to their new Health Centre.
Over a nine month period the children of Great Houghton Youth Club enjoyed spending time at many well known attractions including; Alton Towers, Flamingo Land, Gulliver's Kingdom, Barnsley Bowl as well as their trip to London which included visiting The London Eye, Covent Garden and The Natural History Museum.
"Many relationships were strengthened and social inclusion expanded. Cultural awareness was raised by our London visit and our young people enjoyed a variety of experiences that they would not otherwise been able to access. Thanks for helping to provide happy memories for our young people." - Councillor Dorothy Higginbottom.
