Barnsley Community Solutions the development company partly owned by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and NHS Barnsley have received full planning permission for their next four Health & Social Care Centres at Hoyland, Darton, Athersley \ New Lodge and Great Houghton.
This is major milestone in the development of these projects which represents not only an investment in the borough of £22 million, but recognition of the hard work from both the local public services and communities affected by these developments.
The new buildings will consist of:
Hoyland: This regeneration of the Hoyland centre will include three doctor's practices, and their associated community nursing services, a community information centre provided by Barnsley Connects, a new town library, care assessment and management service, children and adult services, a Community learning kitchen and a new pharmacy.
Darton: The new centre will replace the existing Darton Town Hall and include a community information centre provided by Barnsley Connects, a new Children's Centre, Social Services and Physiotherapy.
Athersley / New Lodge: As part of the regeneration of this area of Barnsley, three new doctor's practices will deliver their services along with other community health services, minor surgery and a new pharmacy.
Great Houghton: The new building will replace the existing doctor's practice and accommodate additional clinical services.
It is expected that construction of these new facilities will begin in early in 2010.
Paul Jagger MBE Chair of BCS said "It's very exciting that these four landmark projects have received planning permission in such a timely fashion. They will bring great benefits in both in health provision and social welfare as well providing investment into these towns and villages. I can't wait for them opening!"
