BRAHM LIFT Ltd -Simon Burns, Minister for Health, visits the Bolton One scheme

It was an opportunity for the Minister to see the results of how closely partners from NHS Bolton, Bolton Council and University of Bolton have been working when he was welcomed to the iconic new Bolton One building on Thursday 26th January.

Delivered by BRAHM LIFT Ltd, the £31m, 13,000m2 scheme is their largest to date, bringing together health services, leisure facilities and uniquely, university research facilities.

Pam Senior, Chair of NHS Bolton, Wirin Bhatiani Chair of Bolton Health Consortium and Margaret Blenkinsop Vice Chair of Bolton NHS FT gave the minister a preview of the building and the opportunity to speak to staff before it opens.

He saw and spoke to Dr Brian Bradley the lead doctor for thoracic medicine which will be moving from Royal Bolton Hospital to the new town centre site and staff from award winning Musculoskeletal services. He also saw new facilities for GPs, x-ray, 50ft climbing wall, hydrotherapy pool, 25m swimming pool and state of art gym and leisure facilities.

Health Minister Simon Burns said: "I was deeply impressed by the exceptional facilities at Bolton One as well as the enthusiasm of the staff and all of the people who have been involved with this project.

Bolton One is an impressive example of how local partners can work together to provide excellent health facilities for the community. Our plans for the NHS will integrate local health services so that people can lead healthier lives just like the people in Bolton will have the opportunity to do."

Wirin Bhatiani said: "We are pleased to have the minister here today. We hope he takes back from his visit this unique development fostered by excellent partnership working.

We now can't wait for Bolton One to open for people living and working in Bolton to benefit from these amazing new health, leisure and university facilities under one roof."

Pam Senior said: "Bolton One is a feather in our cap. It has been built on time and on budget. Its opening will mark a significant development in our plans for people of Bolton to have better health, and get the best healthcare"

The leisure components in the scheme open to the public on 1st February with the NHS Bolton taking over their accommodation in mid-February, in line with the programme.
