In recognition of the success of this partnership in bringing five new health schemes to financial close during 2007 and 2008, the judges awarded "Best Health Scheme" to BRAHM LIFT.
Established in May 2007, The first three schemes are all now operational. At 626m², the £1.4M Alkrington scheme was the smallest, and in March 2008, the first to become operational. Together with the £10.4m Breightmet Health Centre, at 5,700m2, and the £9.6M Nye Bevan House scheme at 3,997m², delivery of this tranche represented a substantial health and social care step change.
September 2008 saw the Secretary of State for Health carry out the naming ceremony for Nye Bevan House. "This is a brilliant resource for the local community with a real wow factor". It brings together 4 GP practices, dental suites and laboratories, audiology suites and physiotherapy services offering a fully equipped gymnasium. There are remarkable examples of "pushing the boundaries" in terms of patient care; handrails etched in Braille, indicating first and last steps on stairwells and an innovative approach to signage using bright colours for ease of service recognition. There is also a café which is being managed by Rochdale M.I.N.D. This is indeed a true One Stop Shop intrinsic to the regeneration of local health and social care within the community.
Post financial close, and following Bolton Council's successful bid for Big Lottery funding, a much-needed local library was added to Breightmet Health Centre. As a perfect example of the Eric Wright Group (EWG) "going the extra mile", delivery of this largest of the sample schemes, housing 2 GP practices, a minor surgery suite, neuro rehabilitation gymnasium and rapid response centre, remained on programme with minimum disruption, leading to a successful opening by January 2009.
Close and effective working relationships between NHS Heywood, Middleton & Rochdale, Rochdale MBC and BRAHM LIFT, helped conclude a second financial close by June 2008. The two schemes involved include the child-focused Primary Care Centre in Hamer & Wardleworth, and a Joint Service Centre (JSC) in Heywood comprising an array of health services and a much needed Council Customer Service Centre
Tim Evans, NHS Bolton Chief Executive said "BRAHM LIFT has proved to be a perfect vehicle for collaborating with commercial and public sector partners to produce superb buildings that enable us to deliver excellent services"
Trevor Purt NHS Heywood Middleton & Rochdale Chief Executive said "We are delighted that BRAHM LIFT has gained the recognition it deserves. The scheme is key in our plans to bring care closer to patients' homes and we can already see the great benefits these state-of-the-art health centres are bringing to our local communities."
Mike Collier, Eric Wright Group Managing Director said "Collaborative working and a dedication from all partners to provide patients with state of the art, service driven facilities, are what make BRAHM LIFT worthy recipients of this award".
A strong and effective partnership between Primary Care Trusts, Local Authorities, communities and the Eric Wright Group is the corner stone for the success of BRAHM LIFT. Eric Wright Group have continuously gone the extra mile to ensure all partners receive the support and expertise needed to deliver premises fit for the 21st century. The result is a dramatic change in the way health and social care is, and will continue to be delivered across the BRAHM conurbation.
