Actress and award winning television favourite Katherine Kelly will visit Heywood next month. Katherine, who was crowned 'Best Actress' at the 2009 British Soap Awards, best known for playing 'Becky Granger' in ITV1 soap 'Coronation Street' will be the star guest during a public open day at the Phoenix Centre on Saturday 14 November.
The £7.3 million Phoenix Centre on Pine Street, adjacent to the Civic Centre will provide a range of useful health, council and community services in the town centre. The new joint service centre incorporates the existing library and boasts an impressive range of health and council services. The centre is also equipped with a suite of computers with free internet access, making it easier than ever to access services online.
Becky has gone from bad girl to bride of Steve MacDonald since first appearing in the soap in 2006. Her unusual friendship with Roy and Hayley Cropper, disastrous love life and trailer trash image have made the stunning actress one of the most loveable characters on the street.
Councillor Alan McCarthy, Chair of Heywood Township said he is looking forward to letting local people to see the new facilities for themselves:
"The open day will be a chance for everyone to come and have a good look around the new centre and see what it has to offer. I'm delighted that Katherine is coming to join us for the open day. Heywood is the first town in the borough to get a joint service centre, and I'm sure local people will make good use of it."
To coincide with the open day the adjacent Civic Centre will be hosting a free Health Fair with a wide range of exhibitors offering support, useful tips and advice on leading a healthier life.
John Pierce, Chair of NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale said the new centre for the people of Heywood will offer modern facilities for patients and improved access to services in the community:
"It will offer a wide range of services for the whole family. For local people this means more care and support closer to where you live and reduced waiting times for treatments and tests."
The Phoenix Centre is a joint project between NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale, New Heart for Heywood NDC, BRAHM LIFTCo and Rochdale Borough Council and will be open from Monday 5th October.
