BTG LIFT - George Street Primary Care Centre is Completed

NHS patients in Glossop, Derbyshire are set to receive more convenient care on their doorstep thanks to last weeks completion of the new George Street Primary Care Centre.

Bury, Tameside and Glossop Community Solutions, the public private partnership specialising in providing bespoke health and social care premises, has worked in partnership with NHS Tameside and Glossop to develop and deliver the new state-of-the-art Glossop Primary Care Centre on George Street close to the town centre of Glossop.

Construction work started on the new Centre in June 2009 after councillor and non executive director of NHS Tameside and Glossop, Lynn Travis kicked off the 'ground breaking' ceremony to make way for the new 1,300m2 building. Which today has been completed on-time and within budget.

This new primary care centre will serve a large part of the local population from the surrounding Glossopdale area. The new services will be introduced in a number of phases enabling patients to receive more convenient medical care in the heart of their local community. The facility will house -

  • district and school nursing

  • dietetics

  • children's services

  • optometry

  • retinopathy screening

  • health visiting

  • sexual health

  • primary care mental health

  • dental

  • speech and language therapy

  • podiatry

  • and Orthoptics services.

The overall design concept has been developed using a traditional style and materials that enhance the conservation area and creates a real community feel.

The centre is also ground breaking in that it is one of the first heath centres procured under the LIFT initiative to install an air source heat pump, providing green energy for the ground under floor heating. To add to the buildings green credentials, solar panels have been sensitively set into the natural slate roof providing additional on site generation of electricity.

Simon Barnes, General Manager of Bury, Tameside and Glossop Community Solutions said: "We are delighted that this health centre which combines traditional and modern materials and technologies superbly has been completed and is set to play a significant role improving the quality of health and social care services for the local community of Glossop".

Louise Rigg, Deputy Director of Finance and Health Strategy said: "The completion of the Glossop Health Centre is the product of three years of planning and it is fantastic to receive the keys from our partner, Bury Tameside and Glossop Community Solutions. This centre will play a central part in the health and social wellbeing of the Glossopdale Community".
