A new medical centre in Millbrook, Stalybridge continues NHS Tameside and Glossop's extension of GP surgeries in the Tameside area. The Mayor of Tameside John Sullivan officially opened the new GP facilities on the 8th of March, heralding a welcome increase of services including longer opening hours and weekend surgeries. Kailash Chand, Chair of NHS Tameside and Glossop, and David Beckett, chief executive of Go to Doc were also present at the opening.
The new centre also continues a family doctor tradition in the Millbrook area. One doctor at the surgery, Dr Saif Ahmed, is the son of Dr Shoaib Ahmed, who had a branch surgery at Millbrook until he passed away in 1997. The new centre will be the first time Millbrook has had a surgery since then. Dr Saif Ahmed says he is keen to follow his father's footsteps in serving the local community.
The opening of the surgery at Millbrook follows medical centre openings around the Ashton, Droylsden and Guide Bridge areas, which are already proving popular with patients. As with those surgeries, the new GP services are provided by GTD Primary Care. This is a subsidiary of Go to Doc the local Tameside and Glossop out of hours provider, who provide GP practice services in Oldham.
These new GP practices will complement existing services in and around the area. For more information on current services and initiatives available in the area, please contact your local surgery.
Dr Kailash Chand, Chair of NHS Tameside and Glossop says "With the opening of the Millbrook surgery, we now have four excellent new facilities in Tameside extending patient choice and access. Many patients will have access to a surgery nearer their home, while others will be able to visit at times more convenient to their working lifestyle."
The Mayor of Tameside John Sullivan said: "I am delighted to open this excellent new facility for local people. It should provide quality local GP care for years to come."
