Community is the central theme for the new state-of-the-art Primary Care Centre in Ashton and developers; Bury, Tameside & Glossop Community Solutions (BTGCS) are delighted to handover the keys for this innovative building to new tenants, NHS Tameside and Glossop and in turn, the people of Tameside.
With 91% of the construction staff coming from Greater Manchester and 25% from the local area, this 5,000 square metre development located at the junction of Cavendish Street and Old Street has generated local economic benefits in the form of employment opportunities, material and equipment provision and is now set to provide the community with first-class health and well-being services.
General Manager of BTGCS, Simon Barnes, said: "Community service provision is at the heart of our approach and is nderpinned by our philosophy, 'Benefits before buildings'. We are proud to handover the keys of this much needed facility to NHS Tameside & Glossop and feel that this fantastic centre represents a step change in modern community health provision."
The centre will offer treatment rooms and GP consulting, a sexual health clinic, podiatry lab, physiotherapy suite, audiology, breast screening, walk in centre, mobile diagnostics and facilities for community activities. To improve the environmentally sustainable nature of the design, rainwater harvesting, combined heat and power units and roof mounted solar thermal panels have been incorporated.
Ian McCrae, Chair of NHS Tameside and Glossop, said: "This project is a fantastic example of regeneration in its widest sense. Local labour and materials have been used throughout the building process. The scheme has also provided valuable opportunities and employment for a number of local young apprentices."
Tim Riley, Chief Executive of NHS Tameside and Glossop commented: "Not only is this good news for the health of local people, it provides an attractive and permanent addition to the townscape of Ashton, and complements other developments such as the new markets."
Chair of BTGCS, Alan Maden, said: 'We are delighted that the Ashton Primary Care Centre has been completed on time and on budget and we now look forward to it being commissioned and brought into full operation by NHS Tameside and Glossop early next year. Its state of the art facilities will be of immense value to the people of Tameside."
