Cleator Moor Health Centre in Cumbria opened its doors to more than 40 people as part of a special celebratory event, on Thursday 20th March.
The event was held to mark the successful completion of the new health and community centre. After speeches, guests were invited to take a tour of the building to see first-hand the outstanding facilities available to the local community, including a walk-in centre, clinics for minor injuries, children's centre, community pharmacy and educational facilities for health professionals.
The purpose built centre, on Birks Road, was developed by eLIFT Cumbria Limited under the Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) programme, a public-private partnership involving Express LIFT Investments Limited and Community Health Partnerships, who are also the centre's Head Tenant.
The centre was created as a means to integrate a number of services, which were previously offered from four different buildings. This co-location of essential services ensures the local population has easy access to health and wellbeing facilities delivered from modern premises.
Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Chairman Mike Taylor commented: “Cumbria Partnership are delivering a range of community services from the health centre including physiotherapy, podiatry, smoking cessation and First Step. Being so close to other services is clearly better for the patients and it will mean better integrated working between clinicians and professionals.”
eLIFT Cumbria Limited also presented a commemorative gift to the building’s tenants. This specially commissioned print captures a timeline of images taken throughout the construction process and will be displayed in the building’s reception/foyer area.
Speaking at the event, Gary Naylor, eLIFT Cumbria Limited General Manager commented: “We are delighted to participate in this event to celebrate the opening of the new Cleator Moor Health Centre, which is a great example of what can be achieved through partnership working.
"I’m sure that the Health Centre will continue to grow and prosper in serving the needs of the people of Cleator Moor and in its role as a much prized community asset. We look forward to continuing to work with CHP as Head Tenant and all the users of the building.”
Dr David Rogers, medical director for NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Cleator Moor now has a fantastic health facility where patients can access many different high quality services under one roof.”
Speaking at the event, Neil Grice, Area Director for Community Health Partnerships said: “Our overall aim is to create the highest quality primary and community facilities that serve the needs of local communities and contribute towards improving people’s health and wellbeing. Cleator Moor Health Centre will provide the local community with not only a very modern, purpose built health facility, but also the services to meet their health needs now and in the future.”
