Community 1st Sheffield and StreetGames bring fun to Sheffield - 23th July 2008

August may normally be a time for summer sun but this holiday season, Community 1st Sheffield and national sports development charity StreetGames are making things all about a summer run by hosting a free family event at Hillsborough Park on Wednesday August 6th.

Starting at 11.30am, and being led by former Commonwealth champion Diane Modahl, the special RUN 4 FUN event is open to all ages and abilities and will see participants run, jog or walk an 800m course around the park. All those taking part will receive a special medal and certificate of achievement.

John Dwan, managing director of Sport4Life, the organisation delivering the event on behalf of StreetGames and Community 1st Sheffield, is sure the day will be a big hit.

John commented: "The RUN 4 FUN event has been kept completely free to enter and open to all ages in order to really encourage families and groups of friends to take part and have fun together. We've already had a great deal of interest, proving that there really is a great demand for community-based activities such as this."

The Sheffield Run 4 Fun is one of several taking place around the country this summer.

Community 1st Sheffield, the local LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) company in Sheffield is working in partnership with Sheffield Primary Care Trust to deliver the most significant investment in primary health care and community facilities in recent years and believes that the partnership with StreetGames on this initiative is a valuable one.

Neil Charlesworth, General Manager of Community 1st Sheffield, commented: "As an organisation we are dedicated to delivering modern health facilities in the Sheffield area, facilities which really meet the needs of the communities in which they are located. Like us, StreetGames, which helps develop youth sport in disadvantaged areas throughout the UK, also believes that supporting communities can help change lives. By working together on the RUN 4 FUN activities we hope to deliver a series of events that will convey this attitude and bring communities together to have fun and get fit."
