Walsall's recently completed £5.5 million Palliative Care Centre at Goscote opened it's door during April. The centre at Goscote is the first facility of its kind in Walsall. It will deliver high-quality medical and nursing and therapy care for local people living with cancer and other serious illnesses, as well as offering support for their families and carers.
The Centre will provide care and support services for a wide range of patients and carers from across the community and its facilities provided by the NHS will include:
A Specialist Day Hospice Facility
Community Oncology and Chemotherapy Service
Specialist Community Palliative Care Service
Complementary Therapy Service
Specialist Therapies Teams
Cancer and Palliative Information and Support Services
Specialist Lymphoedema Services
An Outpatients Department offering a range of consultation facilities
Head of Palliative and End of Life Care for Walsall Community Health Sue Crabtree says: "Many of the patients who use the services here will do so as part of their recovery and their ongoing care. For other patients, although they may have an illness that will remain with them, we will be able to offer a range of treatments that will enable them to live positive and fulfilling lives as long as they are able to do so. We are looking forward to the opening of the centre and progressing this unique partnership with St Giles Walsall Hospice to deliver the best quality care for patients of Walsall. "
Palliative Care Centre Manager Sally Killian adds: "We are very proud of what we have built here, and the completion of the centre marks the successful culmination of many years of hard work and dedication by staff and an army of volunteer supporters."
