Hull LIFT - Kingswood Health Centre Opens to Patients

A healthy future awaits Kingswood residents as the latest in a series of new health facilities in Hull opened its doors on the 14th of October.

Kingswood Health Centre, located in the middle of the Kingswood Parks development off Richmond Lane, is now open to patients.

The ground floor of this striking new centre houses the new Haxby Group Kingswood Surgery; one of five new GP practices set to open across Hull by the end of the year, and one of three which the Haxby Group will be responsible for running in the city.

The upper floor of the £2.5 million centre will provide space for primary care and community services, including pain management clinics, community gynaecology and ear, nose and throat services. There are also plans to introduce community midwifery over the coming weeks.

Construction on the 1,232 square metre building has been remarkably quick; taking just ten months from start to finish; and now thousands of local residents have the potential to benefit from healthcare services delivered in more modern and comfortable surroundings.

The facility has been developed by Hull Citycare Ltd, Hull's Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) company, a public private partnership between NHS Hull (the city's primary care trust) and Hull-based construction company, the Sewell Group, as well as The UME Group and Community Health Partnerships. The centre is amongst those being delivered in the second phase of the LIFT programme, in Hull.

Jo Barnes, Chief Executive of Citycare says:

"Residents in Kingswood really deserve a facility of this calibre. I am proud that the development phase has been seamless and we have worked hand in hand with local school pupils and members of the community to ensure they felt a real sense of ownership over the building long before it even opened."

Kath Lavery, Chair of NHS Hull says:

"It's so exciting to see a development as striking as this, and one which we hope will become a central part of the local community, come to fruition.

"In the past, Kingswood residents have had to travel at least as far as Bransholme or Orchard Park to see a doctor or nurse, but things have changed with the opening of this new health centre.

"Now, Kingswood residents don't have to venture much further than their front doors to receive high quality healthcare. The centre represents NHS Hull's ongoing commitment to providing patients with more choice and convenience, and delivering higher standards of healthcare overall."

Places for some 6,000 patients will be available at the new Haxby Group Kingswood Surgery; a brand new practice which will offer a range of GP and nurse-led services including evening and weekend appointments.

Practice Manager Neil Hewson says:

"We are looking forward to meeting our local residents and welcoming them into the surgery as patients.

"We will be offering appointments with both male and female doctors and nurses, because we understand that each patient's requirements are different. We also understand people lead busy lives, which is why we're happy to offer weekend and evening appointments for those who can't make it to the surgery during the daytime. It's all part of our plans to make healthcare convenient, and to make it easier for people to look after themselves.

"We also have ambitious plans for the future which include the introduction of diabetes services within the practice.

"We want to deliver the best care possible to patients not only in the Kingswood area, but through all three of the practices we'll be operating in Hull, and we're very excited about what the future holds."
