Hull LIFT - Official Opening of £4.5m Bilton Grange Health Centre

Celebration sees special guests converge on £4.5m Bilton Grange Health Centre to mark facility's official opening

Pupils from a city primary school, who have watched a £4.5m health centre rise up from the ground in their community, were the star guests at the building's official opening event today.

Four pupils from Thanet Primary School, which is based in Tedworth Road, east Hull, marked the official opening of nearby Bilton Grange Health Centre, in Diadem Grove, by reading poems out to guests at the event focusing on what they think of their community's new facility.

The youngsters have played an active role in the scheme's development from day one, visiting the construction site in its early stages to learn about safety and burying a time capsule there, as well as interviewing members of the team about their jobs, before writing a newsletter about the project, which is part of Hull's NHS Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) programme.

The new 1,636 square metre development, which opened its doors to the public in October and is now fully operational, houses the relocated Greenwich Avenue GP practice and other associated health services, providing joined-up care and fit-for-purpose facilities for the residents of Bilton Grange.

The centre is part of the second phase of the LIFT programme, which is being delivered by Citycare, the partnership between NHS Hull, Sewell Group, The UME Group and Community Health Partnerships.

Charles Lewis, Chair of Citycare, said: "Bilton Grange Health Centre is the eighth building in Citycare's portfolio and it really is a magnificent development. £43m has been invested as part of the LIFT programme so far and we're proud that more than 90 per cent of the workforce on each of our sites is sourced from a Hull postcode. Now, we are busy delivering Wilberforce Health Centre, a £16m health and well-being facility in Hull city centre."

Kath Lavery, Chair of NHS Hull, said: "This is an absolutely glorious building and we're pleased to see it's already becoming a focal point for the local community. We believe that every patient has the right to be seen and treated in modern, comfortable surroundings, and the new health centre certainly delivers on this for the people of Bilton Grange and the surrounding area."
