Hull LIFT officially opens the Alexandra Health Care Centre

The  Alexandra Health Care Centre, Hull, is officially open

This is the third healthcare centre to be completed in the city by Hull Citycare, a public-private partnership between Hull Teaching PCT (Primary Care Trust) and the Hull-based Sewell Group under the NHS LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) with three more are under construction. It was officially opened by Diana Johnson, MP.

The superbly designed £2m purpose-built centre has eight consulting rooms to house two GP practices which have moved from old properties in the local area, Dr Hussain and Dr Percival and their GP partners. There are also consulting and therapy rooms for a wide range of health care services, both for routine checks and advice on many health issues. Two of the consulting rooms are used to teach students on placement from the Hull & York Medical School.

The GP practices are delighted with their new building. "It has a lovely atmosphere and is very much appreciated by all the patients who come here," said Carole Robinson, Practice Manager for Dr Hussain and partners. "The practice nurse is now available four days a week to perform routine procedures and see patients with minor illnesses in much more comfortable surroundings."

Practice Manager for Dr Percival and his partners, Iain Swallow, is equally enthusiastic. "Compared to the converted Victorian house we have moved from, this building is light, airy and spacious, with the potential for us to expand our services," he said. "We also have a training room which we can use, instead of hiring a room elsewhere, and patients are really delighted to be coming here - only 200 yards from the old surgery."

Christopher Long, Chief Executive of Hull Teaching Primary Care Trust, is delighted that the centre is now open. "This provides the local community with the most modern facilities for their healthcare, the medical practitioners with a pleasant, practical working environment and the patients with a warm welcome," he said.

Paul Sewell, of the Sewell Group is pleased that yet another community within Hull has its own bespoke high quality healthcare centre. "Providing an attractive, well designed community building is a boost for the whole area and we are delighted as a company to be playing our part in creating eye-catching buildings with the best facilities offering the very best medical treatment."
