Liverpool PCT celebrated at Picton Neighbourhood Health & Children's Centre on Thursday 9 October, when Lord Darzi officially opened the new LIFT Facility.
Lord Darzi is Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health and has been leading a review of the NHS advising on how to meet the challenges of delivering health care over the next decade. He also holds the Paul Hamlyn Chair of Surgery at Imperial College London and is an honorary consultant at St Mary's Hospital and The Royal Marsden.
Lord Darzi was accompanied by David Nicholson, NHS Chief Executive, and was greeted at the Centre by Gideon Ben-Tovim, Chairman of Liverpool PCT and the Right Honourable Jane Kennedy, Minister of State, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and MP for Liverpool. The ceremony was attended by clinicians who had the chance to meet Lord Darzi and discuss their views on the future of the NHS.
The Centre at Picton offers the local community access to services such as GP Treatment and Consultancy Services, Practice & District Nurses, Health Education, Phlebotomy, Dental Services, Health Visitors, Baby Clinics and Incontinence Clinics, and also includes a SureStart Children's Nursery.
Representatives from LSHP included Graham Pink, Chief Executive and John Moran, Chairman. Graham commented that "...both LSHP and the city of Liverpool have had an exciting and thoroughly successful year. Lord Darzi's visit commends the efforts put into the LIFT Project by LSHP and Liverpool PCT staff to ensure the patients received the best service and care they deserve."
Formed in 2004, Liverpool & Sefton Health Partnership holds the franchise for the NHS Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) for the Liverpool and Sefton areas.
The company is a Public Private Partnership and has gb Consortium, Community Health Partnerships, Liverpool Primary Care Trust and Sefton Primary Care Trust as its shareholders. It also has Liverpool City Council, Sefton Metropolitan Council, Mersey Care and Northwest Ambulance Service as strategic partners.
Gb consortium is the majority shareholder and comprises; Assura Healthcare, Bilfinger Berger Project Investments, Galliford Try Investments and Sapphire Primary Care.
The NHS LIFT is a major Government initiative designed to stimulate investment in local primary and social care facilities. To date 96 new centres have been delivered nationally across England under the initiative.
LSHP has established itself across the Liverpool and Sefton area as the first choice developer for healthcare facilities. Having completed six centres in Wavertree, Walton, Southport, Ainsdale, Litherland and Everton, this represents an investment of £28 million by the company in providing new fit for purpose healthcare facilities for the communities of Liverpool and Sefton.
