Bolton One is the proud new home for the borough's Children’s Outpatient Department following the relocation of services from the Royal Bolton Hospital.
After closing its doors for the last time on 25 September, patients are now being welcomed at this state-of-the-art centre, that also houses a range of other health services, leisure facilities and uniquely, university research facilities.
With nearly 10,000 children treated in the old clinic this year alone, the decision to move these vital services to Bolton One, was taken because the previous location - a Victorian building, which had been home to the department for decades - was deemed, no longer fit for purpose.
A Bolton NHS Foundation Trust spokesman said: "The old building had become tired and the need for new services now means that it can no longer provide the environment that is required."
Alison Squires, CHP's Area Property & Asset Manager added: "Bolton One is already delivering a range of high quality community-based healthcare including Orthopaedics, a pharmacy, Thoracic Medicine and Occupational Therapy and we are excited to see the addition of the Children's Outpatient Department."
Based on the second floor of the centre, services provided by the department include specialist paediatrics which comprise of a diabetes service, genetics, neurology clinics, respiratory clinics, renal and urology, food allergy clinics, eating disorders, bowel management, eczema and skin conditions.
The department also provides a nurse led blood clinic which allows children to have blood tests with the least possible upset, using local anaesthetic cream and having a play specialist present to distract young children. This is also offered to young children who require an injection.
The spokesman added: "Bolton One is a fantastic building with a gym and swimming pool on the ground floor - the team are even hoping to use the facilities if they have any energy left after work.
"The town centre site means that it is easy for parents to access the clinic from everywhere in Bolton."
