Community Health Partnerships (CHP) is proud to announce the opening of the Tividale Family Practice at the iconic Portway Lifestyle Centre in Oldbury, West Midlands
Providing a range of essential primary care services to over 3000 patients, the Portway Family Practice (formerly known as the Tividale Family Practice) is a welcome addition to the centre, giving the people of Sandwell access to improved standards of healthcare and leisure facilities under one roof.
Speaking about the move to Portway, Dr Saini (one of the practice’s two GP’s) said: “Having previously been located in a small, out-dated building, we look forward to continuing to provide our patients with first class care in this modern, purpose built setting that brings health & well-being, leisure and community services together in one fully accessible space for the benefit of the local community."
Simon Barnes, Area Director at CHP added: “The co-location of the Portway Family Practice creates a prime opportunity for them to work alongside Sandwell Leisure Trust and other partners to engage with the local community and promote healthy living.
“Traditionally, people tend to only access health services when they are ill, but by putting primary care services and health information into an environment where they are going to do something more pleasant or routine, such as work-out at the gym or attend a dance class, then you encourage people to think far more actively about their health and life opportunities.”
Resonating with the compelling future vision outlined in the recent Five Year Forward View, CHP supports the view that promoting healthy communities crosses organisational boundaries and cannot be tackled in isolation.
As a result of strong collaborative working, integrated service centre’s like Portway are providing a platform that actively supports the recent report’s vision of a future that “no longer sees expertise locked into often out-dated buildings, with services fragmented” and resonates with the call to upgrade prevention and public health.
The Portway Lifestyle Centre was developed by Sandwell LIFT Co, in partnership with CHP (Head Tenant), Sandwell Council, Sandwell Leisure Trust, Sandwell and West Birmingham CCG, NHS England and Sport England.
The Portway Lifestyle Centre opened its doors in September 2013. In addition to the new GP surgery, services available to the public include a 114 fitness suite, large multi-purpose activity hall, hydro-therapy pool for rehabilitation, sensory room, climbing wall and café.
We look forward to continuing to provide our patients with first class care in a setting that brings health & well-being, leisure and community services together in one fully accessible space.Dr Saini, GP at Portway Family Practice
