NHS Property Services announce appointment of new COO

NHS Property Services Ltd has welcomed the appointment of a highly accomplished senior executive to its top team.

Dennis Markey has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer for NHS Property Services – which was set up by the Department of Health to develop and manage around 4,000 NHS assets covering estates, property and facilities and more than 3,000 staff following the abolition of Strategic Health Authorities and Primary Care Trusts.

Dennis is currently Director, Integrated Services at Serco Group plc, a post he has held since March 2009. In this role he has responsibility for running IT, real estate and facilities management business contracts across the UK, Ireland and Europe. His previous experience includes senior directorship roles in a range of prominent companies, including Grontmij, Alfred McAlpine plc, Hazell Carr plc and Capita Group plc.

Chief Operating Officer is a crucial role overseeing day to day operational delivery.

Announcing the appointment, Simon Holden, Chief Executive at NHS Property Services, said: “I am delighted to welcome Dennis to the company. The Chief Operating Officer is a critical role for the organisation and Dennis brings extensive experience in senior board positions in both UK and internationally-listed property companies, working closely with private and public sector clients. His expertise in this field will be an invaluable contribution to the Board, helping us build the success of NHS Property Services.”

Dennis said: “I am very much looking forward to joining NHS Property Services. The unique role of the new company as both part of the NHS family and a limited company gives us tremendous opportunities and challenges. There is clearly an outstanding wealth of expertise across the company and I look forward to meeting and working with colleagues to help deliver the clear ambitions set out for the future to enhance the NHS estate and its facilities for the benefit of patients, commissioners, tenants and staff.”

Dennis takes up the new post next month.
