A commemorative plaque has been unveiled at the £6.5m Cleator Moor Health Centre by Copeland MP Jamie Reed, as part of an official visit to formally mark the opening of the Health Centre, ahead of a celebratory event to be held on Thursday 20th March.
The purpose built centre, on Birks Road, was developed by eLIFT Cumbria Limited under the Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) programme, a public-private partnership involving Express LIFT Investments Limited and Community Health Partnerships, who are also the centre's Head Tenant.
A wide range of services are provided from the health centre, including GP surgeries, a walk-in centre, a children's centre, dental services, clinics for minor injuries, community and outpatients, as well as a pharmacy and educational facilities for health professionals.
Mr Reed, who unveiled the plaque on Friday 14th March, said: “It’s great to see this investment in health services for the local community. Hundreds of people have already benefitted from the services provided at this centre and many more will do so in the future. I believe the centre has become an invaluable part of Cleator Moor, which is why I am honoured to be asked to unveil this plaque.”
Dr David Rogers, Medical Director for NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “The Cleator Moor Health Centre opened in May 2013 and has provided the local community, GP’s and health professionals with a modern purpose built facility housing a wide range of services. It really has created a local one stop heath shop providing safe high quality services that will be sustainable into the future, which is important to the West Cumbrian community.”
Dee Houghton, Copeland General Manager for Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said: “Cumbria Partnership will deliver a range of community services from the building including physiotherapy, podiatry, smoking cessation and First Step. Being so close to other services is clearly better for the patients and it will mean better integrated working between clinicians and professionals. We are looking forward to offering high quality services to the people of Cleator Moor from this state of the art building.”
Mark Day, Executive Director for CHP said: "The Cleator Moor Health Centre has successfully integrated a number of services, which were previously offered from four different buildings. This co-location of essential services ensures the local population has easy access to health and wellbeing facilities delivered from modern premises.”
