A formal turf cutting ceremony will be held next month to officially mark the start of work on the new £11m health centre in Meir.
It will take place on November 5th after work started recently on the new primary care centre on Weston Road.
NHS Stoke on Trent's Chief Executive Graham Urwin will be joined by Rob Flello, Stoke-on-Trent South MP and Ann Pursey, Chief Executive of Prima 200 to officially cut the turf alongside other dignitaries, councillors and members of local Meir community groups.
Contracts were signed earlier this year by partners NHS Stoke on Trent, Prima200 and Prime plc so that work can now start. The building is due to be completed by autumn 2011.
The 2,945 sq m primary care centre will bring together six local GP practices. These are:
Dr Borse of Meir Health Centre Dr Verma & Partner of Meir Health Centre Dr Sarin of Uttoxeter Road, Meir Dr Merali of Weston Road, Meir Dr Jaiswal of Weston Road, Weston Coyney Willow Bank of Pickford Place, Meir.
The building will incorporate a wide range of health services including district nursing, health visiting, school nursing, specialist nursing, contraception and sexual health services, paediatric and adult physiotherapy, a dental access centre, and an on-site community pharmacy. The new health centre is expected to open in November 2011.

Great credit should be given to NHS Stoke-on-Trent and its partners in providing a centre which will make a huge contribution to healthcare provision in the area."
