Over the past couple of years, CHP has been working closely with the DH team headed by Pam Chapman to look at elements of strategic planning for LIFTCos. Most recently Pam and her team have been presenting at the TCS workshops we have been running in the 10 SHAs.
Obviously PCTs need reliable information to plan services and commissioning strategies, and use a number of sources for that information. One of those sources is the Strategic Health Asset Planning and Evaluation tool (SHAPE) run by Pam at the Department of Health. It is a web-based, planning software application aimed primarily at Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs) and Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) to inform and support delivery of service reconfiguration within a whole health economy in England.
SHAPE provides an excellent starting point for local strategic planning with key information such as GP locations, hospital admission rates and epidemiology by post code areas. While many PCTs and SHAs use it, LIFTCos
can only gain access throught their PCT but it will provide very useful information in the locality.
