Truro Health Park Development Ready to Go! - 20th March 2008

Truro's flagship Health Park Development gets the final go ahead following the completion of contractual negotiations this week.

The long awaited Truro Health Park development, on part of the former City Hospital site, will take around two years to build and is expected to be open by Summer 2010.

Some early site clearance works have already taken place and the hoarding of the site and site preparatory works will begin this week. Demolition of the old existing buildings on the site and construction commencement works are due to begin in earnest mid April 2008.

The new development will replace the existing unsuitable GP premises on Lemon Street and PCT accommodation currently located in The Leats. In addition to the GPs, the development will also allow for the integration of services to provide wider access to other community based health services in one location closer to where people live. The proposed services include minor procedures, family planning, podiatry, pharmacy, health promotion, speech and language therapy, child and family education, physiotherapy and dental services. Dedicated car parking provision will also be provided and the facility will include access for those using public transport.

A 3D fly through of the Truro Health Park development is available on Community 1st Cornwall's website www.community1stcornwall.co.uk where you can also find information about other planned health care developments across Cornwall and Isles of Scilly.

The development of the new facility is being led by Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Primary Care Trust, as a partnership project for the NHS and is being developed as part of the LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) initiative in Cornwall by Community 1st Cornwall, the local LIFT company and NHS infrastructure development partner, in which the PCT is a shareholder. The building work is being undertaken by locally based contractor Carillion Regional Building

Mike Lincoln Director of Finance at Cornwall & Isles of Scilly PCT, said: "We are thrilled that work will start on the Truro Health Park site next month, which will bring more care closer to people's own homes. Many people have waited a long time to get to this stage and starting work on site will be a truly momentous occasion. The new development will see a wide range of high quality services all being provided at one site in the heart of the city."

Rod Hulme, Director of Community 1st Cornwall, said "There has been a lot of behind the scenes work over the last few years to make this fantastic development become a reality. We're all very proud of what we have achieved so far and we're looking forward to getting going on this flagship project."
