Construction work on the development of the Forrest Medical Centre in Canley, Coventry, has now commenced, with this important milestone being marked by a turf cutting ceremony on 20 March.
This exciting new project is being developed in partnership with Arden Estate Partnerships (AEP), Forrest Medical Centre (FMC) and Coventry City Council.
Once complete it will combine services that are currently offered in each of the practices in the FMC Canley and Chapelfields surgeries, resulting in patients being offered a wider choice of services and appointment times to choose from, within a new state of the art facility, situated in a convenient location.
George Marsh, AEP Chair said “The design of the new health centre has been carefully considered to enable flexibility and efficiency around patient flows and has been designed to facilitate future growth whilst recognising and keeping in line with the Council’s local regeneration plans.”
Matthew Grant, the Managing Partner at Forrest Medical Centre said “Combining our two surgeries into one building provides benefits to the patient of additional GP availability, a wider choice of times and a safer service.
"We also hope to be able to offer new services to our patients due to the extra consulting rooms that we will have.”
The new facility will also include a number of cycling facilities for ease of accessibility for patients as well as to promote sustainable travel within the area.
AEP, the Public Private Partnership responsible for the development of the new facility have already invested over £34 million locally through new development facilities, in aid of addressing inequalities in health and social care estate and The new Forrest Medical Centre will be the fifth development within AEPs portfolio.
AEP, and Forrest Medical Centre (FMC), have been working with Coventry City Council, over a number of years to bring a new health centre to the Canley area.
AEP’s local construction partner Crowngate Construction has now commenced work on the new 750m2 development at Prior Deram Walk, Canley and are working towards a scheduled practical completion date of August 2015 with the plan of the facility becoming operational in September / October 2015.
Crowngate are a long established company based in Coventry who also support the local, four time elite league winners the Coventry Blaze ice hockey team.
